Oilmin

Our Story

Oilmin was established in 1992 by George Leahy (late) and two business partners, born from a deep connection to Papua New Guinea and a determination to support development in places others could not easily reach. Today, Oilmin remains a 100% Papua New Guinean‑owned and operated company, with the Leahy family continuing as its owners and custodians of its values.

The story of Oilmin is closely tied to the history of the Leahy family in Papua New Guinea’s Highlands. Generations earlier, the family played a role in the region’s “first contact” era, entering some of the Highlands’ most remote areas as gold explorers. That legacy of exploration, resilience, and respect for the land and its people continues to shape Oilmin’s approach today.

From its early roots supporting seismic and exploration programs, Oilmin has grown into a trusted, multi‑disciplinary field services and remote logistics provider. Through its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Oilmin delivers a suite of bespoke project managment camp construction and management, civil works, technical staffing, catering, communications, and project management—often in some of PNG’s most challenging environments.

At its core, Oilmin is committed to local participation, community development, and sustainability, sourcing locally wherever possible and supporting health and education initiatives that strengthen the communities in which it operates.
